Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, President and CEO: Hiroshi Otsuka, hereinafter referred to as "Musashi") held the “Hybrid Super Capacitor (HSC) Innovation Forum” at Congress Square Nihonbashi on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, with over 120 market professionals and others in attendance. The forum was attended by more than 120 market participants and others.
At this forum, we discussed and examined solutions for hybrid super capacitors*, energy storage devices with revolutionary features developed by Musashi, as well as energy issues associated with the increase in data centers for generation AI.

*What is a Hybrid Supercapacitor (HSC)?
A hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) is an energy storage device that combines the characteristics of both an electric double layer capacitor and a lithium ion battery. It has both high power density and energy density, and is capable of rapid charging and discharging, has a long service life, and is safe. As an energy solution for data centers, it is attracting increasing attention from the perspective of contributing to power supply stability and energy conservation.

■Panel Discussion
Hiroshi Otsuka from Musashi, Takeshi Izaki from NVIDIA, Mr. Bob Myers, CTO of Flex, Mr. Toru Sawamura, Executive Officer from Sakura Internet, Inc. and Mr. Koji Takahashi, President of Musashi Energy Solutions participated in the panel discussion during the event.
The world's leading frontline industry members discussed the potential of hybrid supercapacitors from a wide range of perspectives and offered their views for the future in a session titled “Power Challenges Associated with the Increase in Data Centers for Generation AI” and “Exchange of Opinions on Solutions”.
■Musashi's Goals
As was the theme of the agenda for this forum, power consumption in data centers will steadily increase with the rapid spread of generated AI. We have decided to build a new plant in Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture, to increase production of high-lid supercapacitors that will help solve this energy challenge.
At the new plant, we will make full use of our strength of “Monozukuri (manufacturing) capabilities” to achieve QCD+E (Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Environment) evolution by introducing new technologies and optimizing production processes, aiming to improve our business competitiveness and profitability. The hybrid supercapacitor will also be used in the production of the hybrid supercapacitor.
Hybrid supercapacitors are expected to be in strong demand for a variety of applications, such as solving power issues in data centers, which was the topic of this forum, and in the railroad business, which is being jointly developed with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, as well as for use in semiconductor manufacturing plants to prevent instantaneous power loss and blackouts, and in auxiliary power sources for fuel cell vehicles. The demand is expected to be strong for a variety of applications.
We will cooperate and move forward together with all the related parties who spoke at this forum, and accelerate our transformation to become an “Essential Company” that solves social issues through our business activities and whose existence is expected by the world.
